Author Representation
I represent a small and talented group of authors and illustrators, with a focus on children’s and young adult publishing.
I work closely with my clients to develop their ideas and manuscripts, think strategically about their careers and find the right publishing home for their work.
My approach is personal, collaborative and hands-on. I believe the best author–agent relationships are built on a shared understanding of what a creator wants to achieve. As well as submitting work to publishers and negotiating publishing agreements, I work closely with clients as they build their careers and consider future projects and opportunities.
Having worked within publishing houses for much of my career, I have a strong understanding of how books are acquired, developed and brought to market, as well as long-standing relationships across the Australian children’s publishing industry.
Representation enquiries
I keep my client list relatively small so that I can work closely with each of the authors and illustrators I represent. For that reason, I’m not currently open to unsolicited submissions. However, I’m always happy to hear from creators who have been introduced to me by someone in the publishing community.
‘I love working with Belinda Bolliger because, unlike most would-be literary agents today, she is a veteran editor and respected publisher. She can tell me what is and isn’t working in my early drafts, generously shares creative insights and suggestions that often inspire wonderful new ideas, and when she identifies a potential publisher, I know they will also be someone I enjoy working with. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a new writer or an old hand like myself. If you’re passionate about books, care about small details and don’t shy away from hard work, then Belinda is the kind of literary agent you should aspire to have.’
‘Belinda Bolliger’s intricate knowledge of publishing and the marketplace combined with a wise and perceptive editorial eye and understanding of the creative process makes her the ideal literary agent.’
‘I want to write for a readership that can create miracles. Children create miracles when they read.’Astrid Lindgren
